American Presidents Museum teams with Boy Scouts for Merit Badge program

In the continuing tradition of President Gerald Ford who earned the rank Eagle Scout during his scouting years, the American Presidents Museum is working with Boy Scouts of America to allow young Scouts to earn a prestigious badge, the Citzenship of the Nation.

The National Center for Presidential Studies and American Presidents Museum is teaming up to offer the merit badge program to area Boy Scout through a program that will take the Scouts through American history, the branches and roles of the Government, the documents that built the foundation of our nation, and what it means to be a good citizen. It is a required element for Scouts desiring to earn the distinction of Eagle Scout.

The program is a full-day activity and is scheduled for Saturday, May 12th at the museum located on the third floor of the Majestic building located at 2849 Gretna Road, Branson.

Individual Scouts as well as entire Scout troops are invited to participate. The program will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a midmorning break that will include a snack and a break for lunch.

"Scouting teaches boys the fundamentals of many necessary skills and attributes to help them on their way to becoming responsible adult members of society," said Stormy Lynn Snow, CEO and founder of the education center. "None are as important as Citizenship of the Nation. One of the primary functions of our educational center is teaching American history, and instilling pride in our nation in all who come through our doors. Offering this merit badge program is an excellent way for our center to reach out to the community, and to the Boy Scouts of America, and show what a wonderful resource we are."

An awards ceremony will be held in which the Scouts will be presented with the Citizenship of the Nation merit badge, as well as a certificate of completion from the center, Snow said.

The program will include several special visitors to aid in the various components required, role-playing, and a guided tour of the museum with focus on the Documents of Freedom, and various activities revolving around the eight requirements.

The cost for participation is $3 per Scout, and complimentary admission for leaders and group chaperones.

Liverpool Legends to help Ronald McDonald House

It could be titled "Help!" as the Liverpool Legends present two charity shows to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC®) of the Ozarks on April 6 and 7 at 8 p.m. performances at the Caravelle Theatre on Hwy. 76 in Branson.

"We want to give back to the community that so readily welcomed us when we brought our 'ultimate Beatles experience' to the Ozarks," said Marty Scott who plays the George Harrison of the group. "What better way than to give part of the proceeds of two nights' performances during our opening week of the 2007 season to Ronald McDonald House of Springfield. We support the mission of RMHC to create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children in the Ozarks. Their first priority is to provide a place for families to stay when their child is in a hospital far from home. Since 1988, the Ronald McDonald House®, has helped more than 6,000 families. Help us lend a helping hand to the children the charity serves by calling for reservations at 417-334-5100."

"The need for help for the Ronald McDonald House is greater than ever since we will be opening a second House within the walls of St. John's Hospital in Springfield during 2008," said Bonnie Keller, president and CEO of Ronald McDonald House of Springfield.

The Liverpool Legends, four talented musicians and actors who were hand-picked by Louise Harrison, sister of the late George Harrison of The Beatles, will open April 3 for 8 p.m. performances Tuesday through Saturday. In 2006 they performed their way into the hearts of thousands of fans and won an unprecedented first-year double award as Best New Show and Best Band in Branson.

Louise Harrison's involvement with Liverpool Legends makes them the only Beatles tribute in the world with a close, direct biological link to the original Fab Four. Liverpool Legends perform songs spanning the entire career of The Beatles and on through the solo years. With precise attention to every musical detail, along with costume changes, vintage instruments and special effects, Liverpool Legends present the "ultimate Beatles experience."

Members of Liverpool Legends have toured the world, playing in historic venues such as Carnegie Hall, The Cavern Club in Liverpool, recording at the famed Abbey Road Studios in London and performing with Denny Laine (co-founder of Wings with Paul McCartney), Pete Best (the original Beatles drummer) and the Boston Pops. They appeared on The Travel Channel's "Beatlemania Britain" and headlined "International Beatles Week" in Liverpool where 100,000 Beatles fans jammed Victoria Street to hear them in concert. In Liverpool Legends received national attention as they re-created The Beatles' 1966 concert at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

"I'm a huge Beatles fan and it's great to see the Liverpool Legends bring them back to life! Now I'm a Liverpool Legends fan! I highly recommend them!" said Tony La Russa, St. Louis Cardinals manager.
