Conrad Arellano submitted a special use permit application to use an office property at 3027 W. 76 Country Boulevard as an exhibit that would include a walk-through replica space shuttle, Gemini Capsule and Lunar Lander. “Participants of the exhibit will not only be able to enter and explore the 60-foot-long space shuttle, but there will also be a film to view a trip into space,” according to a report filed by the city’s planning department. According to documents filed with the city, the owner of the property is Dimitros Tsahiridis, the owner of the former Dimitri’s restaurant. “In the future, the applicant is hoping to expand the exhibit by adding more components and by constructing a planetarium on the roof of the existing two-story building for additional interest,” the report reads. The shuttle and other pieces of the exhibit would be located to the south of the existing building, according to plans submitted to the city. The city’s administrative review team instructed Arellano on the next steps required in his proposal, including an upcoming meeting with the planning and zoning commission, scheduled for Tuesday before submitting building permit applications.
